The Port wine, or only Porto, is a fortified, natural and sweet wine produced in the Douro Region, in the North of Portugal. It is a natural and fortified wine, being naturally sweet, excellent as a digestive or as an accompaniment of traditional sweets. Despite the designation of Port wine, because it was from this city of that the wine was shipped to worldwide, it is at 100 miles east of the city, in Régua and Pinhão, that are located the major production centers. Produced with grapes from the Douro and stored in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, making this the place with the highest concentration of alcohol per square meter in the world. What makes Port wine special, besides the climatic conditions of the area, is the production process, in which the wine fermentation stops at an early stage and is added to the beverage a vinic brandy. The result is a naturally sweet wine, unique in the World.
