100 pts James Suckling - Deep purple in color with a thin magenta edge. Intense aromas of pure wild berries and fresh notes of green apple, plum and raspberry. Around the core of living fruit is an intoxicating aura of stems and herbs. More in depth, exotic notes of cedar and jasmine add an extra dimension of complexity. The wine has attractive elegance and musculature, with vigorous, linear tannins that blend perfectly into the palate and support the wine with great firmness. Very vigorous due to its bold acidity, it presents the intense flavors of wild fruits in a very long finish. While the dominant notes are subtlety and balance, the wine exhibits the restrained vigor and resilience that are the hallmarks of Taylor's style.
The weather pattern during the growing and maturation seasons had a decisive effect on the character of the 2016 wines, giving them elegance, refinement, acidity and magnificent tannins. Spring was exceptionally wet, with heavy rains and relatively cold conditions during the months of April and May. As a result, there was a replenishment of the underground water reserves that had been depleted due to the drought of the previous year and that were available for the hot summer that followed. However, wet spring conditions also caused fruit loss in some areas, leading to a significant reduction in yields and delaying the onset of ripening.
