DENOMINATION OF ORIGIN BISCOITOS

The denomination of origin Biscoitos applies to white wines produced in the region, and applies to wines from vineyards installed in a part of Terceira Island. The term refers to the stony dark ground, similar to a cookie. Is this soil areas with altitude equal to or less than one hundred meters, the vineyards are located, more specifically in curraletas, which are no more than small square plots separated by rubble walls as protection against the wind. The Verdelho grape is the vine variety most used.

DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN PICO

The Denomination of Origin Pico applies to white wines produced in this region. Pico is the second largest island and boasts the highest mountain of Portugal, with 2351 meters. Given the geography of the place, the vine can be installed at a maximum height of one hundred meters, on a narrow range in the west, by the sea. The vines are arranged in corrals, which are parcels bounded by rubble walls as a way to protect vines against the winds of the region. The most prevalent varieties are Arinto, the Terrantez-do-Pico and Verdelho.

The Denomination of Origin Graciosa applies to white wines produced in the region, which is the second smallest and the least mountainous of the Azores islands. Its maximum altitude is 400 meters, and this reduced elevation is responsible for the low rainfall over the archipelago. This is a relatively dry island and the vineyard also grows in corrals, at an altitude of 150 meters.
